Review:
The Fall dance is coming up, and Jessica has set her heart on being queen. However, there seems to be another rival, Enid. Enid is a plain, drab girl (in Jessica's opinion) but she's also Elizabeths best friends. That doesn't stop Jessica from scheming though.
In the meantime we have the sickeningly sweet and budding romance of Elizabeth and Todd, whose relationship is nothing less than perfect. But things are a little more rocky for Enid and her love, Ronnie.
Ronnie is everything Enid wants, but he's so paranoid of losing her that he's almost a control freak. And poor Enids seems to be sitting on the edge of her seat, for she has some secrets in her past....secrets like drug use and abuse, and a nice little trip to juvey hall. Secrets Ronnie doesn't know about.
But there's another secret about boring ole Enid, her ex boyfriend (who was once her partner in crime) still writers her love letters, and Enid writes him back. She just knows if Ronnie ever found out he'd blow his top. But the only person who knows Enid's secret is Elizabeth, and Elizabeth promises she won't tell a soul.
Enter Jessica Wakefield, who spies a letter Enid dropped onto the floor. Also enter the end of her relationship with Ronnie, and goodbye to the Fall queen crown. Oh, and it also looks as if Enid is accusing Elizabeth of spreading this rumor to Ronnie (and the rest of the school) when really it was that conniving bitch Jessica.
Everything works out in the end though. Ronnie does break up with Enid but her ex boyfriend (George) walks back into her life, totally reformed and sweeping her off her feet to the Fall dance. And Jessica does win her precious crown, only to be partnered with the class clown Winston Eggbert (she was banking on dreamboat Bruce Patman assisting her as the king).
From 'the real' eyes and ears of Sweet Valley High:
First of all let's get one thing straight, Ronnie was all over Enid because he knew what kind of girl she was, and don't be fooled into thinking those letters were all innocent. Enid knew what she was doing. She's was dating both guys, she had her cake and she was eating it too...as the old saying goes. She perfectly deserved that Ronnie dumped her in the end. And...George showing up to take her to the dance was no surprise. She might pretend it was, but it was previously planned.
As for Jessica, she's after every guy at Sweet Valley High. Yeah, she's a little dissappointed that Winston was appointed king, but when no one's looking, don't think she isn't all over that too...
